OSHA Required Annual Staff Training

This special training session is designed to assist physician members in meeting the OSHA mandate requiring annual training for all physician office employees by October of each year. Attendees will receive a certificate of completion as training verification. Please note that while this documents safety training required by Cal-OSHA regulations, such training must also be supported by the employer's in-office, site-specific Exposure Control Plan.
Topics covered:
Emergencies: Fire, bomb threats, violence in the workplace and evacuation.
Exposure Control Plan: General facts, safety engineering devices, needle sticks and recordkeeping.
Disasters: Internal and external.
Hazardous Communications: Personal protective equipment, hazardous drugs, hazardous chemical waste/spills and mercury spills.
Presenter: Carrie Champness, RN, BSN, founder of Champs Solutions, a consulting firm of RNs who work with physician offices, urgent care centers and surgery centers to assist with management services, OSHA/HIPAA/State/Federal inspections and education/training.

Terminology for Diagnostic and Procedural Coding: Roots, prefixes and suffixes; anatomy and physiology; and body structure and body systems.
ICD-9-CM Diagnostic Coding: Coding conventions; primary vs. secondary codes; signs/symptoms and ill-defined conditions; neoplasms and adverse effects; injuries, burns, fractures and wounds; and supplementary classifications.
CPT Procedural Coding: CPT categories, format and guidelines; diagnostic vs. therapeutic services; E&M services for all categories plus modifiers; surgical coding guidelines and procedures; modifiers for surgical procedures; and coding from chart notes and operative reports.
Ancillary Services and Advanced Coding: Maternity and delivery services; radiology; pathology and lab services in the physician's office; medicine and intervention; and coding problem set exercises.
